Sunday drive to our center in Chavies Ky.

We had a leisurely Sunday morning since we didn't need to begin our drives to our centers around 11:00.  Most of the adults were up early getting the vehicles ready and positioned for our trip to Hayden and Chavie Ky. where our centers are located.  Some of the teens were up by around 8:00 while others slept in until 9:00 or so.  After breakfast everyone broke into their respective teams to load their overnight bags into the vehicles and get ready for departure.  We gathered in the front of the Hampton for a morning prayer led by George Kashmar, some final instructions and to say goodbye to each other.

We had about a 2 to 3 hr. drive to our centers which went by fairly quick as many of the teens had never seen this part of the country and were amazed at the scenery around each bend of the road.  Many of us took the opportunity to get to know each other since most of us only know a couple on our team of seven. After making a wrong turn about a mile from our center we quickly recovered and arrived at our center to bright sunshine and high 80s temps which is a sign of what is to come for the balance of the week.

Everyone pitched in to unload the trailer with the luggage and quickly claimed a bunk bed for the week.  We made sure that there were several adults in each of the bunk rooms and they had the bunks by the doors.   Didn't make the teens too happy but it made the adults feel better!!  Our center is air conditioned which is a blessing that I"m sure we'll be thankful for all week based on the current weather forecast.

We had a couple meetings with the ASP staff, one just the adults and another with everyone to familiarize ourselves with the center rules, find out about the families we'll be helping this week and the type of work we'll be doing.. Each of the family projects have a code name to help protect the family's privacy and dignity within the community so we'll be referring to them by the code names throughout the week.  The Names are:Gates of the Artic, Sequoia, Acadia, Grand Teton, Capitol Reef, Newton, Crater Lake, American Samoa, and Great Basin.

Each night you'll be reading comments from 1 or 2 teens from each team who will be blogging about their experiences, the families we're helping, and anything else that happens to strike their fancy about the day.  We'll try to include some pictures from the trip to help you experience some of what we are.  We hope you enjoy reading about our experiences and thank you for all of your support and love which has enabled us to make this service trip.  Please keep us in your prayers as you'll be in ours!
