Leslie County Ky - Wednesday July 17th

It was a beautiful start to the day but the heavens opened up on us at 2:30 with rain so hard you could not see. Everyone had to break early and head back but today was also our picnic with the families. So we lucked out and the ran let up and we were able to have the picnic after all.
Thought you might like to see the shoe pile. Every day we come in and having trudged around in mud all day, we are truly filthy. We all have to take our shoes off by the door so we don't track mud all over our center :-)

Here's a picture of the adult leaders at the picnic tonight,

Good Morning! This is Team Sirius blogging from Leslie County, Kentucky.

Team Sirius
Our team is composed of all determined, hardworking people: Megan Aquadro, Nancy Devroy, Emmett Graham, Cory Heffern, Jacob Hollis, Matt Hollis, Grace Mahoney, and Grace May. Our family is Ada and Kenny. Ada has been sick for 14 years and Kenny is her devoted son that takes care and watches over her everyday of the week. Our project is to build a ramp leading up to the porch for Ada because she is restricted to a wheelchair. The job is going fantastic and it is fulfilling for each and everyone of us at the site.

Frustration :-)

There was puppy who we named Tibbs that quickly became part of our team.

Today we had a picnic with some of the families we are helping. Everyone was stuffed with burgers, hot dogs, and pasta salad. The whole ASP group had a great time enjoying live music played by a local band and hearing Claire Bryant take the stage for a few songs which blew everyone away! Also we had an intense game of soccer played in the mud which basically was a slip-n-slide by the time we were finished. So far its an awesome time down here in Kentucky.

Finally, we had one of those rare moments this evening. We had local band from here in Hyden Ky volunteer to play for our group this evening and just put out a hat for donations. So one of our youth,  Claire Bryant started talking to the band and before we knew it, Claire was up on stage and performed for almost a half hour. Totally impromptu - band just played some music behind her and she made up lyrics as they played. If was truly a cool moment. even for an old guy like me. :-)

I uploaded a short part of the program from a video I shot with my Iphone and put it on Youtube. You can watch it here:
